Caput Mortum paints subtle parallels between the rampant misuse of generative AI by its makers and fictitious alchemists destroying life in the quest to make artificial beings.
We wanted to articulate our feelings and fears into one of our favourite genres and settings, while making something genuinely scary and cool.
Playtime
We estimate an average of 2 to 3 hours to complete the game.

Demo Trailer
Gameplay
Caput Mortum is a short first-person horror experience inspired by retro 3D dungeon crawlers and survival horror games. It focuses on exploration and atmosphere while providing puzzles, simple combat, and light resource management.

Caput Mortum makes the player feel very vulnerable thanks to a unique control scheme that remains accessible enough not to become frustrating. The camera is controlled by the shoulder and trigger buttons, while the character’s hand is controlled by the right thumbstick and face buttons. Some puzzles and enemies will require the player to move their hand in a certain way, while others are more standard to balance out the experience.
Inspirations
“Caput Mortum was inspired by my first time playing King’s Field 4 and the anxiety that comes with getting familiar with a game’s control scheme in a hostile environment. I also took inspiration from Amnesia: The Dark Descent when thinking about the monster encounters and puzzles.” - Gab
